where was I ?
the room was small and full of shadows.practically empty.
It smelt damp.
I heard something.
i think it had started to rain out there beyond the blind.
i wondered if there was a rainbow.
a silly thought considering my circumsyances.
I tried to get up.
but I could barely move.
with great difficulty
i managed to turn over onto my left side. a lamp.
a bottle and two glasses sat on a bedside table.
but there was something else lying there.
i could barely see it as it was lying in a puddle of, what smelt like, cheap wine.
i reached out. my arms felt like lead.
as i fumbled for it it kept slipping from my reach.
but i finally slid it towards myself and grasped it
as a glass fell to the floor.
then immediately collapsed back onto the bed.
it felt like I had run a marathon.
it was about the size of a library card or a licence
there was a small photo in the corner.
my eyes were to weak to make out the features.
and the room to dim.
a thousand elephants stampeded through my head.
it took all my strength to turn over again.
my head was spinning as I used the beam of light to illuminate the card.
