today, we're going
about talent and
transgender.
about two months ago, tom gabel,
the lead singer of one of my favorite
bands, against me!, came out publicly
as transgender and that he would begin
living the rest of his life as a woman.
All of his life, gabel suffered
from gender dysphoria, a severe
discomfort or disconnect with
the gender you were born with.
put simply, gabel
believed that he
was meant to live
his life as a woman.
earlier this month, gabel
began performing as laura
jane grace, and began the
treatments and therapies that
would help her fully transition
into a woman.
in my life, i've had
the good fortuane
of befriending many
transgender people,
both in real
life and on this site.
laura jane
grace is an
example of
coming to
terms with
your sexuality
without compromising
your art, or talent.
she's celebrating
both her true
talents and her
true self.
struggling with
your sexuality, or gender,
is nothing to be ashamed
of, nor should it be the
cause of any self-hate.
i hope we all
find the courage
to unleash our
laura jane grace

Wow. I've never seen someone as offensive as you, skate princess!
so you are saying that being gay is wrong? @skateprincess?
Jan 24th
Yeah, just kind of continue your life thinking that way. I'm sure people will take kindly to it out there.

This guy is still a freakin weirdo. and stop calling him a her, hes a HE!!

Some things don't happen by reason. They happen by chance. And you know what? Luck isn't lucky. Sometimes you end up with things you don't like, and you've got to change them yourself, until it feels right. Why do I do certain things in life? It feels right. Why don't I do certain things? Because it feels right to defy them and to be what I feel is me. It doesn't matter if it's not what you think is right for you... it is right for her, and even if that's not your choice, I'm sorry, but you should still respect it.

Skateprincess, as much as I don't want to make you feel like I'm intruding on your religion, beliefs or whatever it is that makes you feel like you have to disriminate against Laura Jane Grace and other transgenders out there, I need to get this off my chest. Do you really think that there's some kind of force out there that decides what gender every human is and why? Not everything HAS to happen for a specific reason. You know what the difference is between males and females? A single chromosome in the DNA. Do you know what the chances are of getting either chromosome? An even 50-50.

Oh, make your own decisions based on what you yourself feel is right? No, it would probably be a better idea to listen to a BOOK. If you trust yourself, you're probably a nutjob.
June 20th
Okay, so that sounds like a pretty good idea. Blindly base your life's decision on a book preaching the ideals of an all-powerful superman figure whom resides in the sky and whom we have no recorded historical or scientific evidence of. If your decision sounds like something said figure wouldn't agree with, it's because you are insane. Sounds about right.

I dont kno the reason but you Know God, the Universe or whatever obviously Made him a guy and didnt want him to be a girl. And he is Married to a Girl. And she actually approves of his descision which is in my opinion crazy. And obviously HE is a weirdo. no normal and sane person would do something so Disastrous.
June 20th
Also, skateprincess, if I may ask...You said multiple times that she was born a guy for a reason. What exactly is the reason?
June 20th
I don't think Laura Jane Grace is married, and if she is it's probably not to a woman. I mean, that's definetly part of the reason she wanted the change, because for one thing she likes men. So...I don't think she'd care if her wife left her. 'Cause, ya know...Lack of said wife. Sarcasm aside though, she is not a "weirdo". She was a individual who did not feel that she was where she belonged. It didn't take a counselor to figure that out. She made a conscious, sensible decision to be who she felt she really was. And a right one if you ask me.

I dont think different people are weird. I just think THIS guy is weird. I mean who is He to change his gender? He was born a guy for a REASON! He shouldent change that just because he has some mental problems that CAN be sorted out.
June 18th
I think I see what's going on; "skateprincess", you obviously think people who are different are weird - which does, in fact, amke you stupid.
June 18th
@"odd" Matt Like i said its called go see a counselor. he was obviously messed up in the head and NOT in a good way. Only weirdos do stuff like this. and if i was his wife. i would have totally left him.
June 18th
Okay... Maybe more than just a few years...
June 18th
People these days... At least they're better than back then. Even just a few years back, people like us would get burned on a stake.
June 18th
If Unleashing your inner Laura Jane Grace means to be yourself in whatever that means to you, I agree.
June 16th
Skateprincess, have you ever even listened to any of AGainst Me!'s songs?
June 16th
Skateprincess, it was more then not liking the clothes he had to wear. She/he (Tom Gabel or Laura Jane Grace) knew deep down he/she had to be a woman. It wasn't like, "Oh, this week I want to be a chick", he/she felt the need to do this.
June 16th
@george8921 its called see a counselor. not change your gender.
June 16th
@Skateprincess, I don't really want to get involved, but it's a little more than that. There's kind of this sense of agony just looking in the mirror and seeing yourself the way you are. It can drive people insane or making them kill themselves.
June 16th
Yeah obviously he was born a guy for a reason. I mean i dont like dresses and skirts but that dosent mean im going to turn myself into a guy.
June 16th
Touchy subject (as can be seen below me), glad to see that somebody so big has the courage to talk about it.
June 16th
i agree with skateprincess
June 16th
Pretzel, I'm not agreeing to what skateprincess said but she's not technically an idot because all she did was state her opinion on the topic
June 16th
and i do kno tom gabel which is his real name. and its not a disorder its just someone being crazy.
June 15th
skateprincess, i'm sorry, but you are an idiot. if a person does not feel comfortable living with who they are, it is their decision and theirs only to change that. who are you to criticize a person you've never even heard of for having a disorder like the one described in this comic? people of this world need to stop being judgmental assholes for no reason.
June 15th
Wow. That's really cool that he turned into a woman.
June 15th
Very, very well said!

Very well said. Being true to yourself is not always easy.
June 15th
your comic was good though!
June 15th
whoever that person was was stupid. Transgenders just need to deal witht he fact of the gender they were born with. People of this world need to stop changing themselves for no reason.
June 15th
Lovely topic. Completely agree.
