I believe there is probably life, but they've never come to our planet (jack...)

I believe there is sentient life out there. I also believe eventually we will develop the means to either create stable worm-holes, fold space or find some method to get there that bypasses the law of relativity. I'm also sad because I'm 99.999% sure I won't see that breakthrough in my life time. Unless of course, "they" decide to share that technology wirth us. And honestly, if I were an advanced alien culture, I wouldn't give us the technolgy yet. We are, as a species, pretty much going through a nasty bout of puberty.

life is out there all right, and it's laughing at us!

I think that aliens are visiting earth, because if you think about it, there have been thousands of U.F.O. sightings in the history of mankind. I have a hard time beiliving that every single one of those is either a hoax or a misconception. There was even an ancient egyptian textthat recorded a sighting of a giant ring of fire in the sky. Itstayed for a long time too. Another acoount was in the time of Alexander the Great, when two "Giant sheilds shot lightning" at the armies.

And even if there IS another sentient species in the universe, which I think is likely, because of the immense vastness of the universe, and the countless number of stars, will we be able to communicate on encounter? I mean, even our non-verbal communication would probably differ enormously... And I don't think they'll speak English...

Statistically, life elsewhere is probably. Since most people have trouble grasping just how immense the distances are, they don't realise that it may be impossible to detect let alone contact another species. Actual travel would take bizarrely long times and even if it was done, you'd still have to detect a world to go to. Chances are that the civilization had already disappeared by the time you detected them let alone arrived there. This is based on the current understanding of physics of course, so time will tell if we smarten up or a very, VERY distant neighbour does (if possible) .

Is just one of a handful of theorems that suggests life is a statistical probability...At the very least, it is being shown more and more every day that there are certainly earth like planets out there for us. Getting to them is the next hurdle.

I wouldn't say impossible. Given the time factor, it might be improbable that we'd find it, though ... SENTIENT life, at any rate.

I seriously don't even like thinking about it.
