Part of the last batch of recruits to join the initial crew of the SS Defender,
Young is the least experienced of the ships crew. Still learning from head of
Security's Hans Svensson, he has been labelled as "Too green to be left alone".
A label "the kid" is determined to remove from his file. Sometimes the naive
young rooker tends to charge into a situation head first, often landing him
in trouble.
While on the ship, Young patrols the many coridors with his assigned
partner Fred Crosby. Crosby is not the kids biggest fan, often being
harsh with his comment towards Ricky. Off the ship, Ricky is part of
"Away Team 3", lead by Sargent Hogan. Hogan has taken a fatherly
approach, when it comes to mentoring Young who has great respect
for the Sarge.
When off duty, Young can be found along with other young "Ensigns" pulling
practical jokes on CHief Engineer "Chief". Something the elder crewman does
not like. His other hobbies are pining over fellow Red Shirt Samantha Barnes,
and taking part in 1st officer Svensson's weekly poker games. Usually losing.
"I'm only a suicide mission away from promotion" - Ensign Young.
